'Tis the Season to Build Our Databases, and Meet and Greet

Remember animal rights demonstrations? Someone would shout, "What do we want?" and we all would answer: "Animal Rights," then the same person would shout, "When do we want it?" and we all would yell, "NOW!"

It was gratifying to make those demands, but the sad reality was that they were made to the wind, resulting in no real change.

LOHV brings us to the jugular vein of power, to those individuals and institutions that will result in real animal protection; but it's not going to happen NOW. As we grow up in this movement, our tactics have become more sophisticated. We've learned a thing or two over the years, and we are now applying that knowledge. LOHV will result in tangible change for animals.

Our best lessons are learned from those whose interests clash with ours. Our political foes knew how to get laws that favored hunting and guns. They formed a voting bloc to influence elections, and they demonstrated in the past that their voting power mattered. By now you know that we are talking about the NRA.

I'll let you in on a secret, NRA votes are a mere fraction of the votes that our movement can deliver. The problem is that we are not organized. Our votes have been scattered across issues and candidates, so they have been meaningless to those who rely on votes to stay in office.

LOHV's goal is to organize the animal protection vote, and with enough of us jumping on board and ensuring that, we will win protective laws for the animals.

The beauty of LOHV is that autonomous chapters and affiliates (localized groups within chapters) work to ensure that the best candidate for animal protection is elected. Following that and then we move forward with getting animal protective laws passed.

Let's not let the animals down another minutes. Please join a chapter or affiliate near you, or consider starting one where one doesn't exist. Please visit: http://www.lohv.org/ and become involved today!
